ThermoClad All-Weather Rooftop Ventilation Insulation Protection
Introduction
After 30+ years in the mechanical insulation industry. I envisioned a need for a superior product for the weather protection for insulation applied to rooftop ventilation systems. In 2012, I researched a solution. In 2013, I developed an all-weather protective jacket that has performed as expected with zero complaints.
In 2018, the first application is in the same physical condition as it was on the date of installation. In Manitoba, Canada, our climate can be as low as -40°C (-40°F) in the winter and up to 35°C (95°F) in the summer. We can also experience heavy precipitation any time of the year.
Thermo Clad is primarily designed to protect exterior insulation applied to rooftop ventilation systems. It is a protective jacket featuring Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) technology.
What is TPO?
It is a waterproof sheet membrane which consists of a reinforced continuous polyester fiber arranged in a grid or in a mat which is sandwiched between two sheets of flexible matrix, a kind of polymer waterproof material which is made of advanced processing technology.
TPO membranes have both the ethylene propylene diene rubber weather (EPDM) resistance, aging resistance and polypropylene weld ability. One of the properties of thermoplastic membranes is that the material temporarily changes from a semi-solid state when heated sufficiently, enabling the sheets that are overlapped to be fused together and return to a solid upon cooling. Thus, a monolithic, continuous sheet membrane is created.
Thermoplastics are widely used in the roofing industry as a waterproof membrane.
